I narrowly escaped something in the range of $70 in chargeback fees for 2 sales made yesterday to (as I found out today) some evildoer in Romania with a credit card number stolen from a guy in Maryland.
What saved my backside was the fact that one of the sales was (accidentally?) using the email address of the guy in Maryland. He replied saying that if the charges showed on his credit card statement he was going to deny payment, contact the BBB, etc. He could have been a little more civil about it (never heard of credit card fraud, have ya, buddy?), but it did give me a chance to remedy things with a couple returns and eat only $20 in lost sales instead of $90 in sales and chargeback fees.
