YES!!

I called the mechanics about a half hour ago, and it seems like the culprit for the hairbrained hood switch has now been found. There's a break somewhere in the wiring harness that was causing it to do what it did, and they're rigging a bypass of that tomorrow. After that and the 10k mile maintenance is done, I can dump the Taurus and get my Escape back, everything working again.

The guy apologized for taking so long, but hey... electrical things in cars can be pretty tricky to find, especially these days, and at least they did find the problem so they can fix it. I did have a bit of a hunch that it was something similar to what they found, though...
